Tu Vuo’ Fa L’Americano

Talk about an identity crisis! Just a little something for a Saturday night. First, Ray Gelato doing the Renato Carosone classic. You may remember it from the classic scene in The Talented Mr. Ripley, below. The Italian Ideology, indeed. Enjoy.

Ah!!! Patricia Highsmith!!! I should have mentioned her Talented Mr. Ripley in my blog about Natsuo Kirino — Kirino’s prose style reminded me of Highsmith’s in Talented Mr. Ripley. Amazing. The movie is great — really great — but is rushed at the end and doesn’t have that wonderfully arid prose.

Incidentally, you know Barbara Alfano’s Ph.D. dissertation is about the use of “America” as a trope of identity in contemporary Italian literature and philosophy, right? The videos reminded of that.
